Extra Credit Reading Notes, The Mouse and The Farmer

Bibliography: W. H. D. Rouse, The Mouse and The Farmer

-This mouse made a hole where there was thousands of golden sovereigns buried in the ground.

-A farmer who owned land where the treasure was but did not know about it but the mouse did. The farmer always saw the mouse but never hurt the mouse because he was a kind farmer. When the farmer was having dinner, he would throw the mouse some cheese.

-The mouse tried to show the farmer he was appreciative of him so everyday, he would bring the farmer a golden sovereign and the farmer would throw him so meat to eat. He started doing this for weeks and got very big.

-The farmer had a black cat but could never see the mice because he was always so small. One day the cat pounced on the mouse ready to eat him because he was so fat.

-The cat and mouse spoke words back and forth. They agreed that the mouse would bring the cat the meat the farmer would give him everyday. If he missed one day, the cat would eat him.

-The farmer noticed and talked with the mousie. He decided it would be best for him to put a piece of glass over the hole that the mouse could come up to and sit in to eat his meat. One day the cat grew angry because he wasn't getting the meat he was promised.

-The cat decided to eat the mouse, but he didn't realize there was glass over him. He just saw the mousie through the glass. At last, the cat ate it all and finally died but the mouse crawled out of what was called an inkstand, the glass, and went back into his hole.

-He finally lived his life in happiness, back to normal not having to worry about the cat.
